You may not think about it very often, but software development is supported by a wide variety of software tools. These include programming language runtimes such as Python, libraries such as NumPy, editors such as VS Code, version control systems such as Git, virtualization platforms such as Docker, and AI agents such as Claude Code. All of these are software that supports software development. We collectively refer to such software as “meta-software,” and we conduct research on technologies for metasoftware, including technology development and empirical studies.
